Pa Tollbom
                       Swedish drummer, arranger, composer

                        

                    Born 1961 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Started out with trumpet but changed into drums
                    at the age of  13. My first band was together with two guitarplayers who were playing 
                    trough an old radio. We couldn't find anyone who wanted to play the bass, probably 
                    'cause this instrument was'nt "hip enough"at this period of time(mid 70:ths) and there 
                    were only four strings on it...
          
                    Around 1979 i started playing afro/reaggemusic, leaving the rock behind. This was a totally
                    new experience because of the different beats and meters that were applied, especially in
                    the Afro-highlife music. Also had my first jazz"experience" around this time when listening 
                    to a 6 hour tape with Miles Davis Quintet 1963-67. I couldn't figure what they were up to,
                    except it was Awesome! After touring two years in Scandinavia, i definetly went into jazz
                    and began to study at musiklinjen Svalov, in Southern Sweden. Graduated 1983 and joined
                    the Swedish jazzgroup WAIL, winner of the "Jazz in Sweden"Award 1985. 
                    Took a break in 1990-92 and started to study composition/arranging and percussion at
                    Swedish University of Music in Malmoe and have been working on a freelance basis ever
                    since.
